This Listing is for ONE NEW Single Amber Alert 39¢ Stamp from 2006.

Mint. MNH. No flaws. From a Smoke-free and Pet-free Environment.

The U.S. Postal Service issued this Amber Alert self-adhesive 39¢ stamp on May 25, 2006 in Arlington, TX - to honor a program dedicated to the rapid recovery of abducted children. AMBER is an acronym for America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response. The chalk pastel illustration is by artist Vivienne Flesher of San Francisco, CA, and shows a reunited mother and child entwined in each other's arms.

The AMBER Alert Program was created in 1996 in the Dallas-Ft Worth, Texas area, and was named for nine-year-old Amber Hagerman who was kidnapped while riding her bicycle in Arlington, TX, and then brutally murdered. The shocked community contacted radio stations in the Dallas area, asking that they broadcast special “alerts” to help prevent such tragedies. Other states and communities soon began adopting similar plans; and by 2005, a national alert system coordinated by the U.S. Department of Justice extended across all 50 states. As of January 2, 2023, 1,127 children were successfully recovered through the AMBER Alert system and 131 children were rescued because of wireless emergency alerts.
