Condition: This poster is in Very Good Condition. Moderate scattered chipping, crazing, and repairing around the front edges of the frame. Moderate scattered tearing to the brown paper backing of the frame. Crude metal hanging wire at the upper back frame. Features the classic "three mallard ducks flying" illustration at front; the bottom portion of the poster was removed long ago, and the remainder preserved for its artistry, as was commonly done. At one time, the full poster measured 25 1/4" x 14 1/4", featured metal bands at top and bottom, and depicted a group of hunters armed with shotguns at one bottom front corner and boxes of Winchester shotshells at the other bottom front corner.
Historical Background: During the period 1902-1911, Winchester stopped producing large wall calendars, but they didn't abandon the wall-advertising concept. It took them the better part of three years to replace the wall calendar of 1901 with a set of advertising posters, but in 1904, two posters were introduced. One of those, known to collectors as "Three Mallard Ducks Flying", promoted shotguns and shotshells, while its counterpart spotlighted rifles and cartridges.
