Traditional Dutch tobacco box from the 18th century, crafted by hand. A elongated, oval-ended rectangular box designed to be pocket-sized and portable. It features a tri-metal or dual-metal look. The top lid consists of a reddish copper panel, while the side walls and rim are made of a golden brass alloy. The box has a distinctly seamed, multi-layered rim construction typical of hand- soldered or pressure-fitted sheet metal boxes from the pre-industrial and early industrial eras. The lid is heavily detailed with a deeply etched or embossed chased decoration. It depicts two birds facing each other, nestled inside an elaborate pattern of rolling scrollwork, vines, and stylized floral foliage. The recessed background areas around the birds and vines are heavily darkened or cross-hatched, creating a strong contrast that makes the polished foreground design visually pop. The top and bottom both open into separate containers. The top compartment is separated into 6 sections. Measuring 5.15" long, 2" wide and 1.5" tall.

CONDITION

This antique is in good working condition without defects. May have a couple scuffs and scratches but nothing notable.
