Original vintage hand-painted character / costume illustration on Bainbridge board.

This is an actual hand-rendered piece of artwork — NOT a print or reproduction.

The artwork depicts a highly expressive full-length character wearing bright pink bib overalls, a loose light-colored shirt, striped neck and leg details, dark shoes, blond hair and pronounced rosy facial makeup. The figure is captured in an animated, performance-like pose.

The piece combines transparent color washes with bold black ink linework and gray background washes. Based on the visible materials, it appears to be watercolor/gouache or similar water-based media combined with ink.

SIGNED:

A large stylized handwritten signature appears at the lower right and extends across the character's shoe.

The signature has not been positively identified.

THEATRICAL / COSTUME DESIGN POSSIBILITY:

The presentation of a single full-length figure, emphasis on clothing, exaggerated pose and detailed treatment of the character's costume are consistent with the visual format commonly used for theatrical costume renderings and character-design illustrations.

The exact purpose of this particular artwork, however, has not been established. It could have been created as costume, theatrical, entertainment or character-design artwork, but no specific production or performer is being attributed to it.

BAINBRIDGE BOARD:

The reverse retains a visible BAINBRIDGE manufacturer's stamp.

Bainbridge produced professional artist and illustration boards used for drawing, painting, illustration, presentation and design work. The manufacturer's mark is photographed and will remain with the artwork.

CONDITION:

Vintage pre-owned original artwork with visible age and handling wear.

There is toning/discoloration to the board, particularly around the edges, along with scattered marks, spots, corner/edge wear and other age-related imperfections.

The reverse also shows age-related discoloration and marks.

Please carefully examine all photographs. They are an important part of the condition description.

No attempt has been made by us to clean, restore or alter the artwork.

WHY IT'S INTERESTING:

Regardless of the still-unidentified artist, this is a genuine one-of-a-kind hand-rendered artwork rather than a mass-produced decorative print.

The distinctive character, bright pink costume, expressive pose, vintage Bainbridge board and prominent unidentified signature make it an interesting research piece for collectors of original illustration, theatrical artwork, costume design, character design and vintage entertainment-related art.

Further research may eventually identify the artist or original purpose, but neither is represented as known at this time.
