Birdman (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) / Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) Original Drum Score by Antonio Sánchez

Director Alejandro G. Iñárritu commissioned Sánchez (a jazz drummer known for work with Pat Metheny) in 2013. Sánchez initially prepared thematic material; Iñárritu rejected it and requested free improvisation performed to a rough cut of the film, later re-recorded against the final picture. Sánchez modified his drum kit (taped heads, altered cymbals) to produce a drier, less polished sound matching the film’s aesthetic. Additional contributions appear from Joan Valent, Víctor Hernández Stumpfhauser, and Brian Blade on select cues.

The soundtrack won the Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media. It was ruled ineligible for the Academy Award for Best Original Score because it incorporates substantial pre-existing classical music.

This listing includes the Soundtrack CD in library packaging and also an excellent condition DVD of the film. The CD is in great, used condition and can be put into a standard jewel case if you wish.
