From Samuel Wood, first listed 1731.
Wood came from a long line of specialist caster-makers.
Examples of a different form, such as this beer jug are
almost never found.
Beer jugs were introduced c1725, Waldron page 341,
and continued in basically this form for 50 or so years.
Making this a relatively early example.
The jug's tapering ribbon form handle is an unusual feature as well,
Waldron illustrates about 10 examples, none with this handle design, pages 340-341.
Hallmarked as shown. Never monogrammed.
This museum worthy 1746 British beer jug 8 inches tall and 8 1/2 handle to spout & 30 1/2 standard ounces.
In very, very fine condition.
Interior perfectly clean as if little used.
The interior walls show thousands of individual hammer marks, illustrating the hand crafting.
Rich, glowing silver patina.
