A striking vintage Japanese ceramic ikebana vase with a wonderfully sculptural organic form.

Finished in a satin/matt black glaze, the vase has an unusual curved kidney or hourglass-shaped body raised on small tapered feet. The flowing asymmetrical lines give it a distinctly Mid-Century Modern / Japanese Modernist appearance.

Designed for ikebana flower arranging, it also makes a lovely standalone decorative object and would work particularly well in a minimalist, Japandi, modernist or retro interior.

The underside bears a red Japanese character mark/seal. The exact maker has not been identified.

Condition:

Good vintage condition with light surface marks and minor signs of age/use. There are a few small marks to the glaze, visible in the photographs. No obvious cracks or significant damage noted. Please study all photographs as these form part of the description.

A lovely small piece of vintage Japanese design with a particularly appealing sculptural form.
