Offered here is a rare antique Newton & Thompson “Happy Ham Farm Products” wooden pull toy, manufactured in Brandon, Vermont, around 1927.
The toy depicts a wooden delivery vehicle with an articulated driver. When complete and functioning, pulling the wheeled toy caused the driver to move backward and forward. The wooden body retains portions of its original paint and factory advertising stencil.
This nearly century-old toy is in heavily worn, incomplete, and nonfunctional as-found condition. It is being sold for restoration, parts, historical display, or inclusion in an antique wooden-toy collection.
No attempt has been made to repaint or restore the toy. Its aged surface and remaining factory graphics have been left as found.
Please review every photograph carefully. The photographs form an important part of the condition description and show the exact item, remaining components, advertising, and damage. The toy shown is the exact one you will receive.
Newton & Thompson operated in Brandon, Vermont, and began producing wooden toys under its Rainbow Line. The Happy Ham pull toy is documented as a 1927 design and is considerably less common than many later American wooden pull toys.
The original driver uses a stereotyped racial caricature typical of some commercial imagery from this period. It is offered strictly as a historical artifact and example of early American toy and advertising design.
