French lady Portrait Miniature Louis-Philippe Period, dated 1848

Dear collectors, Noblesse-Collection is pleased to propose you this ornamental and fine French
portrait miniature depicting an elegant lady, signed J. Guffroy and dated 1848 on the right-hand side.

The sitter is portrayed half-length, wearing a black dress with an exceptionally detailed white lace
neckline, fastened at the centre with a pale pink ribbon and jeweled brooch. Her dark hair is arranged
in long ringlets framing the face, characteristic of the fashion of the late 1840s.

The portrait is particularly refined in the treatment of the face, with delicate modelling of the complexion,
expressive blue-grey eyes and remarkably precise details throughout the lace and jewelry.

An old handwritten label on the reverse identifies the sitter as:
Henriette Vouzeau (Saumur, 1809 – 13 December 1889), wife of Jean-Baptiste de La Tour.

J. Guffroy is a rare and little-documented 19th-century French artist known principally as a watercolor
painter of flowers, but also recorded as having painted a small number of portrait miniatures.

The miniature is presented in its period rectangular frame with an oval gilt-brass inner surround.

A very attractive and finely executed signed and dated French portrait miniature from the late 1840s.

with the frame : Height : 16,3 cm 6,42 in. Width 13,2 cm 5,20 in.
