This is a wood display model of the Boeing 314 "Dixie Clipper," finished in Pan Am's silver-and-yellow scheme with black wing striping and marked NC18605 on the wings and tail. It's built to 1/100 scale on a wingspan of roughly 20 inches, mounted on a triangular mahogany-finish wood base engraved "B-314 SCALE 1/100." The paint work is nicely detailed for the scale — cabin windows, ladder rungs on the engine nacelles, the PAA winged-globe logo and "DIXIE CLIPPER" script on the nose, and a hand-applied American flag decal below the cockpit.

The Boeing 314 was Pan Am's flagship ocean-crossing flying boat of the late 1930s, a genuine giant of the era at nearly 42 tons, built to link America to Europe and Asia in an age when no runway was long enough for aircraft of that size but every coastal city had a sheltered harbor. This particular airplane, the Dixie Clipper, carries a remarkable pair of historical firsts. On June 28, 1939, she carried the first twenty-two paying transatlantic passengers in history, departing Port Washington, New York, bound for Marseille by way of the Azores and Lisbon, at a one-way fare of $375 — a small fortune at the time — while thousands of spectators watched from shore. Then, in January 1943, the Dixie Clipper made history again as the aircraft that carried President Franklin D. Roosevelt to the Casablanca Conference to meet Winston Churchill, making FDR the first sitting U.S. president to fly on official business, the first to cross an ocean by air, and the first to visit three continents in office. He reportedly celebrated his 61st birthday in the plane's dining salon on the return leg. The Dixie Clipper spent the rest of the war in government service before passing through several postwar owners and finally being scrapped around 1951.

Condition, sold as found and untested as a static piece: two of the four propellers are missing (the two outboard engine nacelles are bare; the inboard pair still carry their blades), so a buyer will want to plan on sourcing replacements if a complete look matters. There's also a visible prior repair where the vertical tail fin meets the fuselage — a small bead of adhesive is evident at the seam, holding but not invisible up close (see photos). Elsewhere the model presents well, with the wing struts, floats, and decals all intact and no other breaks noted. No box or paperwork included.

Please do not ask us to low declared value, it defeats the whole idea of shipping fully insured parcel.

  • under $750 will be shipped by Registered Mail or First Class International (delivery time up to 4 weeks)
  • or if they weight over 4 pounds  will be shipped FULLY INSURED by Priority Mail (delivery time 6-14 days non guaranteed)
  • over $750 will be shipped FULLY INSURED by Express Mail with a signature confirmation (delivery time 4-7 days)

The International bidders might want to contact us about shipping cost prior to placing their bids.

We will ship to the address listed in your eBay profile under "Shipping Details". It's buyers responsibility to provide a correct shipping address. All returned parcels because of " a wrong shipping address" parcels will be re-sent at the buyer's expense.

Please do not ask us to ship to the address not listed in your eBay profile, we will not do it unless we know you from previous transactions.

Postal Insurance
All domestic parcels with a total over $50 (for Priority mail) and $25 (for First class and Parcel Select) will be insured: $1 per up to $100 of the total (for example if total is $256, postal insurance will be $3)
All International parcels will be insured (no exceptions): $2 per $100 of the total for example if total is $256,
postal insurance will be $6)

Lost & Damaged Claims

For lost parcels, you must wait for 21 days domestic (US) and 45 days for International shipments. For shipments to Italy, you must wait 60 days before filing. Damage claims can be filed immediately. All claims should be submitted within 90 days from the date of shipment. All International parcels will be insured with U-PIC, please do not file a "not received "claim with PayPal, just contact us to resolve your problem.

If item was  damaged in transit you should not return it. You should submit an insurance claim to get a compensation. Please do not send us back broken items. If you need an assistance with your claim please contact us. 

All returned items should have a tracking number and be fully insured.
