Hello and thank you for viewing my listing. Today you are purchasing a cutting fragment specimen of NWA 16818 Achondrite Howardite Meteorite from Northwest Africa. The green Howardite! This is one of the most interesting and spectacular Howardites I have yet to classify. The matrix is just full of all kinds of inclusions/clasts, brecciated eucritic chunks, wow! Classified at the University of New Mexico by Carl Agee. I couldn't wait to share this one! I have pre-prepped the entire stone; it has hit the 300 specimen and no more section. This meteorite has been being studied for over 2.5 years now. The specimen you see in pictures is a reference specimen; this is NOT the exact specimen you will receive. I will make them as they sell. THE 300 CLUB IS A NEW CATEGORY I HAVE MADE. IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION LAST YEAR THAT A LOT OF MY CLASSIFICATIONS, ESPECIALLY THE OLDER ONES FROM 2006 AND ON, WON'T EVER HIT 300 IN SPECIMENS MADE AVAILABLE. I HAD NO IDEA YEARS AGO THAT I WOULD DO THE TUCSON AND DENVER SHOWS FOR 10 YEARS AND THEN BIG UNIVERISITIES WOULD GOBBLE UP LARGE SPECIMENS MAKING MY WEIGHTS GO DOWN VERY FAST WITH SOME OF THESE CLASSIFICATIONS. PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THIS SECTION, WHEN THEY ARE GONE, THEY ARE GONE. ALL SPECIMENS COA'S WILL BE MARKED 103 OF 300 ETC.

Northwest Africa 16818 (NWA 16818)

Classification: HED achondrite (Howardite)

History: Purchased by Sean Tutorow in Morocco in December 2021.

Physical characteristics: A single, light colored individual lacking fusion crust. Saw cut reveals a fragmental breccia with clasts and crystal fragments of varying size and color, set in a light tan groundmass.

Petrography: (C. Agee, UNM) This meteorite is a polymict fragmental breccia with diogenite, cumulate eucrite, and basaltic eucrite clasts. Clasts are up to several mm in size set in a very fine-grain cataclastic groundmass. Plagioclase makes up approximately 20% of modal mineralogy of this meteorite. Minor phases observed were chromite, ilmenite, troilite, silica and low-Ni Fe metal. The percentage of diogenite material is ~60 vol%, the percentage of eucrite material is ~40 vol%.

Geochemistry: (M. Spilde and C. Agee, UNM) Diogenitic low Ca-pyroxene Fs23.4±2.7Wo2.4±0.9, Fe/Mn=28±2, n=4; cumulate eucrite low Ca-pyroxene Fs34.7±0.2Wo4.1±1.5, Fe/Mn=28±1, n=2; basaltic eucrite low-Ca pyroxene Fs59.5Wo5.2, Fe/Mn=32, n=1; plagioclase An91.3±3.2Ab8.3±3.0, n=4.

Classification: HED achondrite (Howardite).
