A handsome antique brass kettle dating from the late Victorian period, circa 1870–1900.
The kettle has a wonderful squat, rounded body raised upon four small ball/bun feet, with an elegant curved gooseneck spout and removable domed lid with turned finial.
Particularly attractive is the substantial overhead brass carrying handle, which incorporates a beautifully turned ebonised wooden grip. The combination of warm aged brass and dark wood gives the piece a very characteristic Victorian appearance.
A lovely piece of genuine antique domestic metalware, now ideal as a decorative kitchenalia or fireside display piece.
Condition:
Good antique condition with considerable age-related character. The brass has surface scratches, tarnishing, spotting, discolouration and areas of oxidation/verdigris from many decades of use and polishing. There are some minor knocks and imperfections.
The ebonised wooden handle shows noticeable wear, chips and losses to the dark finish, revealing the natural wood beneath in places.
