A striking vintage Eagle Pottery glazed jardinière, featuring richly moulded relief decoration and a deep green glaze.

The exterior is covered with an elaborate design of fantastical mythical creatures, with forms suggestive of dragons, phoenixes and griffin-like beasts amongst scrolling foliage and cloud-like motifs. The design has a strong Asian/Oriental influence, although the exact symbolism and origin of the pattern have not been identified.

The heavily moulded decoration and glossy coloured glaze give the piece a distinctly majolica-style appearance, with darker tones settling into the recessed areas and highlighting the intricate relief work.

The base bears a moulded/impressed EAGLE mark. The precise pottery and country of manufacture have not been conclusively identified, so no specific factory attribution is being made.

Approximate size:

23cm diameter
