I have for sale here a nice vintage Midland Bank savings bank.

For anyone not in the know, the story was that you saved all your sixpences , shillings, pennies and more at home in the box for which you did not have a key, when full you took the savings bank into the bank branch where the key was kept, it was opened and you either got your cash or were encouraged to deposit it into your bank account, whilst some people were eventually given the keys when they are closed their accounts or this facility was withdrawn most of these banks seem to exist without keys and this one is no exception, so if you’re planning on putting any gold sovereigns into it you’ll need an angle grinder to open it🤣

The lower part of the box is still with the bank, the lid is not
