This is a fold-out map with card covers titled "The Rev. W. Awdry's Railway Map of the Island of Sodor - Where Thomas the Tank Engine & His Friends have their Adventures".  The publisher is Edmund Ward (Publishers) Ltd - no date, but from research, I can say it is a 1st edition from 1958.  The last title inside the rear card cover is "Duck and the Diesel Engine" which was first published in 1958.  The artwork is by C. Reginald Dalby - not credited but one of my reference books credits the artist.  A really lovely item - showing the little island of Sodor with many of the locations mentioned in the books (up to 1958) shown.  Lovely colours and artwork.  The fold-out map is enclosed within decorative card covers.  The front cover opens out and the map is folded inside and attached along the spine.  The map then folds out to four panels wide and three panels deep.   A lovely addition to a "Thomas" collection and a harder item to find.  When folded the item measures 14.5cm x 10.6cm.

The item is in a good plus condition overall - the map itself is very good but the covers are graded as good.  The covers have general edge, spine end and corner rubs, slight reverse slope to spine, small bumps and creases at corners with a little layer separation at rear corners and at bottom front corner, crease down spine, a little surface paper lifting and some small loss to surface paper along spine, small bumps at spine ends with some softness, small crease at top of spine, some light rubbing to spine, light crease and a small rub at bottom front of spine, tiny bit of surface paper lifting at bottom front edge, some very light creases close to spine on front cover, the odd light mark and tiny mark to front and rear covers, small, light bend and a little surface paper lifting at bottom rear of spine, light brown mark at bottom corner inside front cover, light crease along front edge inside rear cover, some bumps to edges of card covers.

The map is about half way detached from the spine from the bottom up.  General edge, fold end and corner rubs, tiny creases at right hand corners and bottom left hand corner, ridges about 1cm to right of far left fold on top and bottom panels - looks like a manufacturing fault, small creases and two small, grey lines at bottom of central fold, light creases at right hand end of horizontal folds, small creases at right hand end of top horizontal fold, light creases at top of middle and right hand vertical folds, some very light browning, the odd small, light crease and the odd tiny mark to borders, tiny thinned areas at fold junctions - only visible when held to light, some small, light creases to fold junctions, the odd tiny mark to reverse of map.

Please check scans carefully as they help with the condition too.
