Civil War Patriotic Song Sheet for music
SOLDIER'S FRIEND
Words by D. Brainerd Williamson
Music by J.S. Cox
An original Civil War Era song sheet.
It looks like it was trimmed on all edges - the size is shown in the photos.
At some point it also looks as though it was fastened in a scrapbook or on a wall? We don't know.
The music sheet words were inspired by D. Brainerd Williamson, witnessing in 1862, after the Battle of Williamsburg, a scene in the Hygiea Hospital at Fortress Monroe where he continued to "cluster his own unselfish deeds of love, kindness and mercy to the sick, wounded and dying soldiers of the Union".
This would frame up quite nicely.
Condition of the song sheet is well used, trimmed, showing remnants of paper and glue, staining, edge wear, foxing, spotting, and pin holes.
