RARE ORIGINAL 1948 GILWELL HIKE REPORT – BOY SCOUTS – 238th HILLSBOROUGH, SHEFFIELD

An unusual and highly interesting piece of original British Scouting history.

This is an original Boy Scouts Association “Gilwell” Hike Report book, completed by A. G. Button, a Patrol Leader with the 238th Hillsborough Scout Troop/District, Sheffield.

The book records a First Class Journey, undertaken from Saturday 8th May to Sunday 9th May 1948, with the report addressed from A. G. Button (P.L.) to A. T. Dunn (A.S.M.).

The book has been extensively completed in the original handwriting, recording the journey in considerable detail. It includes:

• Detailed written account of the hike
• Times and observations along the route
• Contemporary descriptions of landmarks and countryside
• Hand-drawn route maps and junction diagrams
• References to Wisewood, Worrall, Worrall Village, Warncliffe Nunnery Hospital, Hillsborough Golf Club, Kirk Edge and High Bradfield
• Information concerning the Ordnance Survey map used for the journey
• Original 1948 handwriting throughout

The cover retains the printed Gilwell / Boy Scouts Association design and Kipling quotation.

This is much more than an unused Scout notebook — it is a genuine completed First Class hiking/navigation record from 1948, providing a fascinating first-hand record of Scouting activities in the Sheffield area immediately after the Second World War.
