Large Antique French crystal bottle fllacon de toilette, likely made for eau de Cologne / scented toilet water, rather than concentrated perfume due to its size. End of XIX century, likely c. 1880–1900

Made of heavy clear crystal with rectangular body, clipped corners and a very thick base. Flacon is nested in a decorative gilt-metal cage/mount following all edges. Stunning crystal glass stopper.

Bottle carries extensive wheel-cut, engraved and acid etched botanical decoration - flowers, leaves, berries & grasses across front, sides and shoulders. Petals and leaves show fine linear cutting plus deeper incised details,  beautiful frosted engraving against brilliant clear crystal.

Gilt bronze mount of this bottle are particularly elaborate. They are decorated with richly chased foliate/leaf pattern around every border, including decorated corners and junctions. 

Bottle is fitted with large heavy crystal stopper topped by spectacular multi-faceted spherical finial and a long ground plug individually fitted to neck of the bottle. Overall the stopper is beautifully proportioned to the monumental body

This antique crystal bootle is exceptional in its scale - almost 9 inches tall, which is very rare and hard to find in intact condition. That is not an ordinary perfume flacon but a grand flacon de toilette. 

Piece had a very strong Belle Époque boudoir / dressing-table presence and will be a fantastic gift or accent not only on the toilette desk but also a coffee table or a styled decorative vignette.
