Historical Background:

Podstakanniks were widely used throughout Russia and the Soviet Union, particularly on long-distance railway journeys and in households.

The metal holder allowed hot tea to be served in a glass while providing a convenient handle and protecting the drinker’s hands from heat.

These traditional holders were manufactured in various designs, including floral, geometric and commemorative patterns.

Today, original Soviet-era examples are collected as pieces of everyday social history.

Condition:

Vintage used condition with visible signs of age and previous use.

The metal holder shows tarnishing, scratches, surface wear, discolouration and areas of finish loss, particularly around the floral decoration.

The glass appears intact in the photographs, although minor surface marks may be present.

Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.

An attractive collectible for enthusiasts of Soviet memorabilia, vintage tableware and traditional tea accessories.
