Greco AP-1000 1987 4.11Kg Electric Guitar W/Hard Case Shipping From Japan

This is a rare "Japan Vintage" model—seldom seen on the market—that faithfully recreates the acrylic crystal body of the Ampeg "Dan Armstrong Lucite Guitar" originally introduced in the late 1960s.

This specific unit is the first-edition model produced by Greco in 1987.
As a highly sought-after collector's item, this initial version rarely appears on the used market.

It features "Rock-Bullet" pickups—original high-output humbuckers with blade pole pieces unique to this first edition—wired directly into the circuit. The build quality is exceptional, featuring a neck constructed from a three-piece maple and mahogany laminate; this design enhances the neck's strength and resistance to warping.

Its defining characteristic is that it was crafted to be a "crystal guitar ready for heavy live use," incorporating precision assembly, a durable laminated neck, and excellent tuning stability.

Tonally, it is reminiscent of a Les Paul Junior equipped with P-90 pickups.
Despite the acrylic body, the instrument delivers a surprisingly mature, "aged" sound developed over nearly four decades.
It is equipped with a tone-cancel switch; by setting a preset tone for rhythm playing with the switch ON, then turning it OFF for solos, the player can access a cutting bridge-position lead tone that provides a "boost" effect, adding dynamic contrast to the performance.

It also features two strap pin positions, allowing the player to adjust the guitar's playing angle to their preference.

This model evokes a sense of nostalgia, as it was the guitar chosen by Japanese players in the 80s who admired artists like Keith Richards and Joe Perry—musicians known for playing the original Dan Armstrong models.

Regarding its condition, there are no signs of truss rod adjustments having been made since 1987; the neck remains straight with the rod at its neutral starting point, and the mechanism functions perfectly for tightening. This serves as a testament to the neck's exceptional durability. (Due to the high rigidity of the neck, the truss rod may feel slightly stiff when tightening, but the range of adjustment falls within specifications.) Regarding the frets, while there is some slight indentation in the lower positions, approximately 70–80% of the fret life remains; it appears the instrument was played for only a short time after its initial release.

The electronics are straightforward and function without issues. The mini-switch showed signs of aging and has been replaced. The volume and tone knobs exhibit some waviness, but this appears to be part of the original specifications.

Cosmetically, there are no noticeable scratches on the wood of the neck or headstock.
There are scuff marks on the back of the acrylic body caused by a belt buckle.
The white lettering on the pickguard—displaying the Greco series name "Spirits of the Live"—has worn off.

It has been well-preserved since 1987. This is a recommended used guitar not only for collectors but also for anyone seeking an instrument with a unique character.
