General

An Imperial Japanese Army Military Police (Kempeitai) non-commissioned officer and enlisted personnel rain cape, based on the Meiji 45 (1912) pattern.

The garment features military overcoat wool fabric. Based on the fabric quality and the recessed centers of the greenish-brown dyed cow-hoof buttons, it is estimated to date from around 1935 (Showa 10).

Officially issued rain capes of this type did not use numbered sizes and were made in a one-size-fits-all format.
