Vintage Soviet Era Smoking Set – Ashtray & Cigarette Holder – RJF Marked – Mid-Century Design

An attractive vintage smoking set, believed to date from approximately the 1960s–1980s, featuring a stylish combination of cream-coloured plastic and silver-tone metal.

The set consists of:

* A rectangular cream-coloured plastic base.

* A fitted silver-tone metal ashtray with cigarette rests.

* A removable oval cream-coloured cigarette holder or container with a metal rim.

* An interesting manufacturer’s mark, RJF, moulded into the plastic.

History and Possible Manufacturer

This smoking set is believed to originate from the Soviet period, possibly manufactured in Riga, Latvia, then part of the USSR.

The plastic component bears the moulded initials RJF, which may indicate a Latvian manufacturer, although the exact factory has not been positively identified.

One of Riga’s important Soviet-era manufacturers was the Riga Jewellery Factory, established in 1963 through the merger of several local workshops and the Gaisma metal goods factory.

The factory produced jewellery, metal tableware, decorative souvenirs and other household articles.

Although this smoking set is stylistically consistent with Soviet-era household accessories, a direct connection with the Riga Jewellery Factory has not been confirmed.
