History of Parker

Founded in 1888 by George S. Parker in Janesville, Wisconsin, Parker Pen Company grew from a small American manufacturer into one of the most influential names in the history of writing instruments. Parker built its reputation on innovation, quality, and reliability, introducing new technologies that helped shape the modern fountain pen industry.

Throughout the twentieth century, Parker produced some of the most iconic fountain pens ever made. Models such as the Duofold, Vacumatic, 51, 45, 61, 75, and Sonnet became favorites among writers, professionals, and collectors around the world. The Parker 51 in particular is often regarded as one of the most successful fountain pen designs ever created, praised for its advanced filling system, streamlined appearance, and dependable performance.

Parker's commitment to innovation extended beyond design. The company pioneered numerous developments in filling mechanisms, nib technology, and manufacturing techniques, helping fountain pens become more practical and reliable for everyday use. Its famous arrow clip, introduced in the 1930s, remains one of the most recognizable symbols in the writing instrument industry.

Over more than a century of production, Parker pens have been used by business leaders, world figures, and generations of writers who appreciated their blend of craftsmanship and functionality. Whether crafted from colorful celluloid, sterling silver, lacquer, or precious metals, Parker pens have consistently reflected the company's dedication to quality and timeless design.

Parker 75

The Parker 75 is a classic fountain pen introduced by Parker in 1964 to commemorate the company's 75th anniversary. It was designed as a refined, practical writing instrument and became one of Parker’s most recognizable fountain pen models. Its distinctive design combines a relatively slim profile with carefully finished metal or lacquered bodies, depending on the version.

One of the most recognizable features of the Parker 75 is its section and nib design. The triangular-shaped gripping section was developed to provide a natural writing position, while the adjustable nib assembly allowed the writing angle to be personalized by rotating the nib and feed within the section. This made the Parker 75 particularly adaptable to individual writing styles.

Parker produced the 75 in a wide range of finishes throughout its production, including sterling silver, lacquer, and various metal patterns and special finishes. The familiar arrow-shaped Parker clip and clean proportions give the pen a distinctive appearance without making it overly large or heavy.

The Parker 75 uses Parker’s cartridge/converter filling system, making it straightforward to fill and maintain. Combined with its adjustable nib position, comfortable grip, and durable construction, the Parker 75 remains a practical example of Parker’s approach to functional fountain pen design during the second half of the 20th century.

Parker 75 14K gold nib

The Parker 75 14K Gold Nib is one of the premium nib options produced for the Parker 75 fountain pen. Made from 14K gold (585), it combines the durability and corrosion resistance of gold with the precise, controlled writing characteristics associated with Parker’s higher-grade nibs.

The nib has a relatively firm and responsive feel, making it well suited to controlled everyday writing. It is not designed as a flex nib, but the gold construction provides some natural resilience as the nib moves across the paper. The result is a dependable writing experience with consistent contact and good control.

A distinctive feature of the Parker 75 is its adjustable nib orientation. The nib unit can be rotated within the section, allowing the writer to position the nib to match their preferred writing angle. This feature works particularly well with the 14K nib, allowing the writer to fine-tune the feel and alignment of the writing point.
