The Poems of Longfellow, Modern Library 1932

A handsome early Modern Library volume gathering Longfellow's best-loved narrative poems: Evangeline, The Courtship of Miles Standish, The Song of Hiawatha and Tales of a Wayside Inn, along with many shorter poems. This is the First Modern Library Edition, 1932, stated on the copyright page, from the Bennett Cerf / Donald Klopfer era, bound for the Modern Library by H. Wolff.

What makes this copy special is the original pre-war dust jacket: the yellow-and-green 95-cent jacket (ML #56 on the spine) with the "Books that have something to say to the Modern Mind" order panel on the back and the complete list of titles printed on the reverse. Early Modern Library jackets were usually discarded, so finding the first ML printing still in its jacket is uncommon.
