This is an antique sterling silver cased pocket watch with a white enamel dial and gold main hands. The dial has the words Improved Patent written on it. Smaller seconds dial with blued hand.
The inner case and the back of the inside of the case are both hallmarked for LONDON 1880 with maker's mark RJP. Robert John Pike was a watch case maker. The inner case is also marked with the number 5 4228. The assay mark and date letter on the back of the inner case are shield shapes which were specially used on watch cases during this time.
The movement inside is named Brookhouse, Easingwold along with matching serial number 4228.
I have just got a watch key winder and wound it, it is ticking away happy. Balance staff is good.
I have NOT timed it.
The top push button works ok, the front case hinges open to enable you to get the movement hinged out. The movement has a dust cover. This works fine. Top suspension loose is a little slack and worn. But remember it was made in 1880.
I have never come across an Easingwold pocket watch before, so a nice local watch from North Yorkshire.
