This is a vintage Hanukkah Menorah (specifically a Hanukkiah used for the festival of Hanukkah), cast in brass or bronze.
Key Features & Iconography
The Ten Commandments & Crown: The central backplate features the two tablets of the Law (bearing the first letters of the Commandments in Hebrew) surmounted by a Torah Crown (Keter Torah).
Lions of Judah: Flanking the tablets are two rampant Lions of Judah supporting the crown, a traditional motif in Jewish ceremonial art symbolising strength and devotion.
Hebrew Inscription: The raised text across the front base reads: הנרות הללו קדש הם ("Haneirot Halalu Kodesh Hem"), which translates to "These lights are holy"—a key line from the traditional prayer recited after lighting the Hanukkah candles.
Light Configuration: Across the front row are 8 small oil/candle cups for the eight nights of the holiday, with the 9th auxiliary burner—the Shamash (helper light)—mounted slightly off to the right side on an extended arm.
Origin & Style
This particular design—a bench-style cast brass menorah featuring lions, the crown, and tablets—is a classic classic Eastern European (Polish/Ukrainian) traditional design that was widely reproduced in solid cast brass throughout Israel (Bezalel/Davar styles) and Europe in the mid-to-late 20th century.
