A fascinating pair of antique Spode plates dating to circa 1823, featuring two closely related versions of Spode's Bang Up design.

Both plates have a very similar central floral composition decorated in cobalt blue, iron red/orange and pale blue with gilt highlights, but each has a distinctly different border.

The white-border plate is Spode pattern 3504. The reverse is hand numbered 3504 in red and bears the impressed SPODES NEW STONE mark.

The blue-border plate is Spode pattern 3690. The reverse is hand numbered 3690 in red and has a very faint impressed Spode mark together with additional small workman's/decorator's marks.

The pair is particularly interesting because the closely related central decoration can be seen with two contrasting border treatments — one predominantly white and floral and the other with a much more elaborate blue ground border.

Both plates have attractive shaped/scalloped rims.

Measurements:
Both plates measure approximately 24 cm (9.45 inches) diameter.

Weights:
White-border pattern 3504 plate: 500 g
Blue-border pattern 3690 plate: 511 g

Condition:
Both are antique pieces approximately 200 years old and show age-related wear, surface marks and some wear/loss to the gilt and decoration. Please study all photographs carefully for the exact condition, as they form an important part of the description.

A very attractive and unusual pair for a collector of early Spode, Georgian ceramics, New Stone china or early 19th-century English pottery.
