ANTIQUE EDWARDIAN SEWING / NEEDLEWORK WORK TABLE
SILK-LINED INTERIOR – FLORAL DECORATION
A wonderfully charming antique ladies' sewing / needlework work table, dating from around the late 19th to early 20th century.
A particularly attractive and increasingly difficult-to-find piece of period domestic furniture, combining a useful work box with an elegant tall occasional table.
The table has a rectangular hinged top raised upon four long, slender square legs.
Both the top and front are decorated with delicate period-style floral motifs, while the dark reddish-brown timber retains a wonderfully aged surface with extensive natural patination and character.
The hinged top opens to reveal the original-style textile-lined sewing / needlework compartment.
The underside of the lid is beautifully padded and buttoned with gathered and ruched edging, while the deep storage compartment below is also completely textile lined.
This would originally have provided convenient storage for sewing materials, embroidery, threads, fabric and other needlework accessories.
The original brass hinges and lid support are retained.

CONDITION:
Very good antique condition overall, retaining a tremendous amount of genuine age and character.
The wooden exterior displays considerable age-related surface wear, including scratches, rubbing, marks, small knocks, finish loss and general wear accumulated through many years of use.
The top in particular displays extensive historic surface wear and patination, clearly visible in the photographs.
The interior textile lining remains present and is NOT torn, but shows noticeable age-related spotting, staining and discolouration consistent with considerable age and historic storage / exposure to moisture.
The interior has intentionally been photographed clearly and has not been disguised or represented as being in perfect condition.
The floral decoration also displays natural age-related wear.
We have deliberately NOT refinished or over-restored the piece, as the aged surface and patina form an important part of its character.
