A fascinating account of the authors military adventures in South Africa during the first Boer war and his big game hunting experiences in Africa and Borneo. He bagged buffalo near the Limbombo Mountains and hippopotamus on the Umlumazi River. There are also chapters on lion hunting and various types of antelope. In Borneo, accompanied by a party of Dyak he canoed up the Kayu River where he shot elephant.
