Antique leather-covered travelling photograph frame, believed to date from the late Victorian / early Edwardian period, circa 1890–1910.

A lovely portable design with two hinged front doors which close over the photograph for protection. The reverse has a folding easel stand allowing the frame to be displayed upright.

The interior is lined in warm brown velvet and retains its gilt-coloured metal photograph mount and glass. The metal mount can be lifted out, as shown in the photographs. The glass remains firmly seated in the frame and I have not attempted to remove or force it.

The case has small metal hinges and decorative fastening hardware. The exterior has a dark burgundy / reddish-brown textured leather covering with tooled linear decoration.

Measurements when closed: approximately 11.7 cm long x 9.5 cm wide x 1.5 cm deep.

Weight: approximately 168 g.

In antique used condition with wear consistent with age. There is rubbing, scuffing and deterioration to areas of the leather covering, particularly around the edges and folds. The metal fittings and removable mount show tarnishing, spotting and age-related marks. The velvet interior has some wear, dust and marks, and the interior backing/glass area shows age-related spotting and discolouration.

The hinges, folding doors and rear easel stand operate. The removable gilt-coloured mount is present. The glass is intact and has deliberately been left in situ rather than risk damage by attempting removal.

Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description and show the condition in detail.

An attractive and characterful antique travelling photograph frame with a particularly nice folding shutter-style design.
