Mikadotrochus hirasei 71.9mm Pleurotomariidae emperor's slit seashell

An attractive hirasei specimen featuring a beautifully tapered spire, intricate surface sculpture, and warm cream, tan, and reddish-brown banding. The distinctive slit along the outer lip is a characteristic feature of this fascinating deep-water gastropod.
Condition notes: This specimen has visible natural marine encrustation, including raised white calcareous outlines on the exterior (possibly previous barnacle attachment), as well as a small natural scar. These are shown clearly in the photographs.
