Soloists included pianist Emil Gilels, pianist Lev Oborin, violinist David Oistrakh, cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, violinist Mikhail Vaiman, pianist Sviatoslav Richter, cellist Daniil Shafran, pianist Bella Davidovich, and others.

Conductors included Yevgeny Mravinsky, Kirill Kondrashin, Kurt Sanderling, Kirill Kondrashin,  Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Boris Khaykin, Arvīds Jansons, and others.

Every season the Leningrad State Philharmonia (Saint Petersburg Academic Philharmonia Named After D. D. Shostakovich now) has been offering a series of subscription concerts. For the 1953–54 season, the Philharmonia offered nine symphonic subscription series in the Grand Hall.
