"The vintage "Bouncer" die-cast toy sedan made by J&S Products Inc. (Los Angeles, CA) during the late 1940s and early 1950s is based on a stylized, futuristic concept car resembling a 1940s Tucker 48 (the "Tucker Torpedo") and general late-1940s aerodynamic streamline fastbacks (like the Cadillac Series 62 Sedanette or Packard Clipper). The flat metal springs built into the chassis underneath serve a specific purpose:The "Bouncer" Spring Suspension: The toy features two flat, curved piece-metal leaf springs attached to the axles. They function as a working suspension system.The Gimmick: When children would push down on the die-cast car or roll it along the floor, the flat springs allowed the car to literally bounce up and down without bending the axles or scratching the bottom of the body. This unique bouncing action is exactly why J&S named and marketed the toy line as the "Bouncer" series."
