🛠️ INSTALLATION & ACTIVATION GUIDE

STEP 1 – Install Windows Server 2025

Make sure Windows Server 2025 is installed and properly activated on your server.

Please note that the RDS CAL is an access license and does not include the Windows Server operating system itself.

STEP 2 – Install Remote Desktop Licensing

On your Windows Server:

  1. Open Server Manager.
  2. Select Add Roles and Features.
  3. Choose Role-based or feature-based installation.
  4. Select your Windows Server.
  5. Select Remote Desktop Services.
  6. Install the Remote Desktop Licensing role service.
  7. Complete the installation and restart the server if required.

STEP 3 – Activate the License Server

After installing the licensing role:

  1. Open Server Manager.
  2. Go to Tools.
  3. Open Remote Desktop Services → Remote Desktop Licensing Manager.
  4. Locate your license server.
  5. Right-click the server and select Activate Server.
  6. Follow the activation wizard.

STEP 4 – Install the 50 User CALs

Once your license server is activated:

  1. Open Remote Desktop Licensing Manager.
  2. Right-click your activated license server.
  3. Select Install Licenses.
  4. Follow the licensing wizard.
  5. Enter the license information provided with your physical product.
  6. Complete the installation process.

After successful installation, the available RDS CALs should appear in the licensing manager.

STEP 5 – Configure Remote Desktop Licensing

Make sure your Remote Desktop Session Host is configured to use the correct licensing server.

You can configure the licensing settings through:

Server Manager → Remote Desktop Services

or through Group Policy:

Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → Windows Components → Remote Desktop Services → Remote Desktop Session Host → Licensing

Configure the required licensing server and select the appropriate Per User licensing mode.

STEP 6 – Configure Your Users

Create or select the Windows user accounts that will access the server through Remote Desktop Services.

The licensed users can then connect to your Windows Server environment according to your server configuration and applicable Microsoft licensing terms.
