This is an antique commemorative ceramic plate featuring a portrait of Major-General Sir Hector Archibald Macdonald (popularly known as "Fighting Mac"), a famous British Army general from the late 19th and early 20th  century.

Significance: He achieved the rare Victorian-era distinction of rising from the ranks as a private in the Gordon Highlanders to become a major-general, gaining fame during campaigns in Afghanistan, the Sudan, and the Second Boer War
