Collection of vintage and antique travel guide books, offered together as one auction lot.

An interesting mixed collection covering Britain and Europe, with several early John Murray travel handbooks dating from the late 19th century, alongside Blue Guides, Michelin and other vintage travel guides.

The collection includes examples such as:

John Murray Handbook for Travellers in Scotland – Fifth Edition, 1884

John Murray Handbook for Travellers in Algeria and Tunis – Third Edition, 1887

John Murray Handbook of Rome and the Campagna – Sixteenth Edition, 1899

The Blue Guides: North-Western France – Second Edition, 1932

Les Guides Bleus Paris – Hachette, 1937

Ward Lock & Co Guide to Switzerland – Sixth Edition

Nagel Travel Guide Series – Spain

Michelin Guide to the British Isles

Devon by S. Baring-Gould – Methuen & Co, Third Edition

Plus additional vintage Murray and travel guide books as shown.

Many contain maps, plans and illustrations and would make an interesting collection for collectors of antique travel books, cartography, early tourism, social history and vintage guide books.

Condition varies considerably due to age and use. Covers and pages show general wear, marks, foxing, discolouration and age-related deterioration. Some bindings/pages are worn or damaged and there may be inscriptions, stamps or other signs of previous ownership and use.

Of particular interest, the 1932 North-Western France Blue Guide bears an Eastern Command Education Library / HM Forces “Not For Resale” stamp.
