A very attractive vintage floral rug or runner featuring a bold hand-worked design of large stylised flowers and foliage in warm orange, rust, burgundy, cream and green tones against a neutral beige ground.

The construction appears to be latch-hook / rug-hooking work, where individual short lengths of yarn are worked through an open mesh canvas to create the raised pile. The reverse clearly shows the gridded canvas structure and the individually worked areas of colour. This type of craft was particularly popular for decorative rugs and wall hangings during the mid to late 20th century, particularly around the 1960s–1980s.

The floral design has a strong retro decorative appearance, with large cream flower forms, rich orange and burgundy blossoms and flowing green foliage. It would work particularly well as a decorative bedside rug, small hallway runner, fireside rug or as a vintage textile wall hanging.

The yarn has the appearance and texture of wool or a wool-type rug yarn. I cannot confirm the exact fibre composition from the rug itself.

Condition Report

In good decorative vintage condition overall with plenty of character and attractive colour.

As would be expected from an older handmade textile, there are signs of previous use and age, including some surface wear and marks. One more noticeable mark is shown clearly in the final photograph.

No attempt has been made to clean or remove this mark, so it is possible that careful specialist cleaning may improve it; however, this cannot be guaranteed and it should be considered part of the rug's present condition.

The handmade nature, age-related variation and signs of previous use all contribute to its authentic vintage appearance. Please study all photographs carefully as these form an important part of the condition description.
