This is the official record of the Setouchi Triennale 2025, the art festival held across the islands and coastal areas of Japan's Seto Inland Sea. Across 368 pages, it takes you through all the works shown in 17 areas including Naoshima, Teshima and Shodoshima, with abundant plates documenting what 222 artists and groups from 37 countries and regions created on these islands.
The book goes well beyond the artworks themselves. You follow the exchanges between artists and island residents, the food and hospitality offered to visitors, the activities of the Koebi-tai volunteer supporters, and the partnerships with companies and local government that keep a festival of this scale running. Sections such as the Koebi three-year diary and a record of events from 2023 to 2025 let you see how the festival was built up over time, and closing data pages summarize the 2025 edition in figures.
General director Fram Kitagawa reflects on the sixteen years of the Setouchi Triennale and what the 2025 edition achieved. Participating artists include Chiharu Shiota, Tadao Ando, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Seizo Tashima, Min Tanaka, Motoki Yamamoto, Haegue Yang and Wang Wen-Chih, among many others.
