At first glance, Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring/Summer 2016 majolica print supplies all the drama: dense scrollwork, flowers and tile-like borders in yellow, cobalt blue, green and red against white cotton poplin. The cut is what keeps that abundance precise. A square neckline and compact puff sleeves frame the shoulders, while the closely shaped bodice releases into deep gathers, giving the short skirt its buoyant, almost bell-like swing. The silhouette is sweet; the print refuses to be demure, and that tension is exactly what makes the dress feel spirited rather than costume-like.
Do not try to match every colour. A severe black flat or clean pointed pump, small gold earrings and a compact cream bag will give the ornament room to work; no necklace is needed against that square neckline.
