This is a lovely Mid to Late 19th Silver Snuff Box in an unusual Pattern with a Ribbed Base, Ornately Chased, Floral Pattern to the Lid, and a Fabulous Textured Pattern to the Sides.

It has only two marks, a crude cross alongside the number 2, so it is difficult to pinpoint its origin; however I have had it tested in the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter and confirm it is 80% silver. The style of the ribbed base and the elaborate sides is very much French, so my guess would be that the box was crafted on the German side of the French border before 1886, when the crown and crescent mark became a requirement for German silver.

Fair antique condition, the hinge is fine and the lid closes flush, the interior is very dirty, there is a nasty dent on the back, see 11th photograph, small dents to three of the corners, see 9th photograph for the worst one, the underside is compressed inwards, see 10th photograph, and there is a small split  at the bottom edge, see last photograph.

The box is 8.5 cm x 5.2 cm, 1.2 cm deep, and it weighs 75 g.
