A beautiful antique Regency period rosewood tea caddy, dating from approximately 1820–1835.

This elegant caddy is made in the classic sarcophagus form, veneered in beautifully figured rosewood with a rich, deep colour and striking natural grain. It stands on four small bun feet.

The front retains its attractive diamond-shaped mother-of-pearl escutcheon surrounding the keyhole.

The hinged lid opens to reveal a striking red-lined interior and two original removable tea compartments, each with its own fitted lid and knop handle. The interiors are lined with  metallic/foil lining, traditionally used to help preserve and protect the tea. This may not be the original lining. 

A particularly attractive example of a Regency tea caddy, with excellent colour and grain, making it both a functional collector’s piece and a beautiful decorative antique.

Condition:
Good antique condition overall, with expected signs of age and use. There are surface marks, minor scratches and wear around some edges and corners, commensurate with age. The interior lining shows wear and ageing. Please examine all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.
