The obverse features a right-facing portrait of Abraham Lincoln, with LIBERTY to the left, IN GOD WE TRUST above, and the date 1943 to the right, with no mint mark present.
The reverse displays the original Lincoln cent wheat-ears design, with ONE CENT centered, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA below, and E PLURIBUS UNUM above, flanked by two stalks of wheat.
In 1943, the US Mint struck cents on zinc-coated steel planchets instead of the usual bronze, conserving copper for World War II ammunition and equipment production. This one-year composition makes 1943 cents instantly recognizable by their silver-gray color, though the Philadelphia issue seen here was struck in very large numbers and remains a common, affordable example of the type.
The coin is ungraded and shows light surface toning typical of steel cents, along with age-related handling. Please use the photographs as the primary guide to condition. No numerical grade is being represented.
