Conditions Indicating Engine Problems:

1. Low‑pressure on the first stroke and a cumulative pressure of only 10‑20 PSI per stroke, which means the valve is stuck or the valve seat is burnt out.
2. Low pressure in one cylinder or all cylinders. Pour a small amount of engine oil into the cylinder to check whether the piston ring or cylinder wall is damaged, or whether the oil has blocked the tiny gaps around the piston ring. If the pressure reading is still low, the fault lies with the valve or cylinder‑head gasket. If there is only a slight pressure increase, the piston ring, valve or cylinder‑head gasket is damaged, or possibly all three parts are defective.
3. Higher‑than‑normal pressure is caused by excessive carbon deposits inside the cylinder.
4. For an engine that has been overhauled with new piston rings, a low pressure reading may result from improper installation of piston rings.
