Electric trains - digital or analog control?

A significant advantage of digital systems is the ability to independently operate multiple locomotives on a single track. Using an analog control system, two locomotives on the same track will operate simultaneously. This is because analog control involves increasing and decreasing the voltage on the tracks. Separate operation of two or more electric trains requires connecting several independently powered tracks, which is complex and requires careful planning and a lot of space. In digital systems, the voltage on the tracks is constant, and the locomotives are controlled by sending appropriate signals from the controller.

EN57 multiple units were produced in the years 1961–1993 by the PAFAWAG factory in Wrocław.

A total of 1,412 units were produced. They were used primarily in regional and metropolitan traffic. The complete unit consists of three connected units, two shunt units, and a central engine unit. It is possible to couple three EN57 units for driving. The interior of each unit is divided into three passenger compartments. The first production series were characterized by grooved side walls and three windows at the front of the unit.
