Description

Beautiful and unusual vintage Bulgarian handmade leather presentation/document folder, dating from the socialist era and retaining its original manufacturer’s paper tag.

The large front cover is decorated with an impressive hand-tooled and embossed folk-art composition, featuring highly stylised symmetrical birds, floral and geometric motifs. Small decorative inserts/studs and contrasting golden-coloured details give the design additional depth. The overall appearance is strongly influenced by traditional Bulgarian and Balkan folk art.

The original attached label is especially interesting and identifies the piece as an artistic leather product. The Cyrillic text includes:

“Художествен комбинат за приложни изкуства” – Artistic Combine for Applied Arts

The tag also carries handwritten inventory/catalogue information and an original price marking of approximately 20.25 leva.

This was not simply a mass-market office folder, but a decorative applied-art product made during Bulgaria’s socialist period, when state-controlled artistic combines produced leatherwork, ceramics, textiles, woodwork and other traditional decorative crafts.
