Vintage Baltic Amber Necklace Sterling Silver Tone Link Chain USSR Soviet Era

Description:

A beautiful vintage Baltic amber necklace, featuring five natural amber pieces in warm cognac/honey tones suspended from an unusual decorative metal link chain.

The necklace has a distinctive mid-century design, with long straight links joined by circular decorative elements. Five individually shaped and polished amber drops are attached along the lower section. The amber shows attractive natural variations and inclusions typical of genuine Baltic amber.

The style is consistent with Baltic / Eastern European jewellery from the Soviet-era period, although there are no clearly visible hallmarks in the supplied photograph, so the exact maker, date and metal composition cannot be guaranteed.

Baltic Amber History:

Baltic amber is fossilised tree resin formed approximately 40–50 million years ago and has been collected around the Baltic Sea for thousands of years. Latvia and the other Baltic regions have a particularly long tradition of amber jewellery making.

During the Soviet period, Baltic amber was extensively worked into jewellery and decorative objects, with Latvia and Lithuania becoming important centres of amber craftsmanship. Vintage pieces from this period are now collected both for their distinctive designs and for the natural character of the amber.
