PHOTO TERMINOLOGY & CLASSIFICATION (Auctions)
Type I Original Photograph: When a photograph is specifically listed as a “Type I Original Photograph,” I am representing the photograph as a Type I (PSA Standards) based on the information, characteristics, and/or authentication available to me.
Original Photograph: When listed simply as an “Original Photograph,” I believe the physical photograph dates to the era or general timeframe of the image, but I am not guaranteeing a specific Type classification. It may qualify as Type I, II, III, IV, Digital (III or IV) or potentially be considered inconclusive due to factors such as a blank back or insufficient identifying information. Some photographs listed as Original may ultimately qualify as Type I; I simply cannot confidently verify them as such. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or if you would like additional information about the photograph, its paper, markings, stamps, or other characteristics.
Vintage Photograph: I use “Vintage Photograph” for older photographs featuring images generally taken before the 1970s. The term refers primarily to the age of the image itself and does not guarantee when the physical print was produced. These photographs may have been produced later and mostly will qualify as Type II, III, or IV, with some potentially being a Type I; I simply cannot confidently verify them as such. Unless specifically stated, “Vintage” should not be interpreted as a Type classification or guarantee for a Type I.
PLEASE NOTE: A photograph is only specifically represented as Type I when the listing states “Type I Original Photograph.” The terms “Original” and “Vintage” alone do not guarantee that a photograph will receive a Type I or any other specific classification from a third-party authenticator.
TYPE I RETURN GUARANTEE: I offer a 100% money-back guarantee on photographs specifically sold as Type I Original Photographs. If a photograph is submitted to a recognized third-party authentication company (Specifically PSA) and is determined not to be a Type I, it may be returned for a full refund.
