Characterful hand-carved and painted wooden tortoise / turtle figure sitting on a stack of two books.

Features a flat cap, carved and painted shell and lots of lovely character. Unmarked, so maker, origin and exact age are unknown.

There is a small pre-drilled hole in one hand, suggesting it originally held a small accessory which is now missing.
