A beautiful pair of antique Georgian / Regency ironstone china plates produced by John & William Ridgway of Shelton, Staffordshire, dating to approximately 1814-1830.

These plates are decorated in a striking Imari palette of cobalt blue, iron red and yellow enamels with a floral basket design to the centre and richly decorated borders. Both examples retain the simple blue "IRON STONE CHINA" backstamp together with the hand-painted pattern number 994 and decorator's marks.

Research indicates that the same pattern is represented in the Victoria & Albert Museum collection (Object No. C.11-2020), where a related example is attributed to John & William Ridgway and dated circa 1814-1830.

The plates have an attractive scalloped form typical of the Regency period and would make an excellent addition to a collection of early ironstone, Ridgway pottery, Imari wares or Georgian ceramics.

An increasingly difficult pattern to find, particularly as a matching pair.
