Replaceable Cutting Inserts for Indexable Spade Drills

Designed for machining holes in parts made of structural steels and cast irons, hard forgings, as well as stepped and profiled holes on various types of machine tools.

The replaceable insert has a pentagonal shape and is made of high-speed steel such as R6M5, R18, HSS, and others. It is mounted in a shank of a specific length.

The insert features increased strength. For better chip evacuation, the cutting insert is equipped with chip breakers across its width.

The cutting part of the insert is provided with two working cutting edges.

When drilling soft materials, the angle between the cutting edges is 90°; for hard materials, it is 140°.

At the intersection of the flank surfaces of both cutting edges, a chisel edge is formed with an inclination angle of 55°–60°.

To reduce friction, the guiding section of the insert is provided with a chamfer measuring 0.2–0.5 mm. In addition, the spade drill has a secondary side relief angle of 5°–8° and a diameter reduction of 0.05–0.10 mm along the entire length of the drill.
